What the center is for
The G center is described as the home of the self. It is the part of the chart that answers questions like "who am I?", "where am I going?" and "who do I love?". The system does not give it a motor's drive. Instead, it supplies a sense of direction that the rest of the chart acts on.
It is also the center most tightly bound to the rest of the chart. It touches the throat, the heart, the sacral and the spleen, so a filled G is always joined to at least one of them.
Gates and connections
| Runs to | Channels |
|---|---|
| The throat | 1-8, 7-31, 10-20, 13-33 |
| The heart | 25-51 |
| The sacral | 2-14, 5-15, 10-34, 29-46 |
| The spleen | 10-57 |
Gate 10 appears in three channels, which is unusual. The G has no direct link to the head, ajna, solar plexus or root.
When the G center is defined
A defined G is described as a consistent identity. Wherever the person goes, they carry the same sense of self and a similar direction in life. The system says people with it may seem hard to sway when they are certain, and others may find that steadiness reassuring.
A defined G does not mean you always know your direction. It means that the process by which you find it is the same from place to place.
When the G center is open
An open G has no fixed identity, and the system treats it as the most environment-sensitive center in the chart. The right neighborhood, workplace and group of friends are described as part of finding out who you are. A person with an open G might feel confident in one city and lost in another, or feel like a different person at a family dinner than at a conference.
The not-self theme is looking for love, direction and identity. The suggestion is to let those come through where you are. If a place or a relationship does not feel right, the open G is described as the first center to register that, and moving is a legitimate answer.
The testNotice how you feel in the first ten minutes of entering a space. The open G is said to read it early.
- Registering a fit. Someone leaves a small town for a large city and feels a quiet relief, as if they finally make sense. The system reads that as an open G registering a fit.
- Registering a mismatch. A low dread on entering a particular office is read as a mismatch worth taking seriously.
The G center and your type
The G is not tied to any one type. It does, however, appear in several specific patterns. A Projector whose G center is linked to the throat, with no other inner-authority centers defined, has self-projected authority. In a chart with the G linked to the heart, a Projector may have ego authority.
What this looks like in your chart
Find the diamond in the middle. If it is filled, at least one of the channels listed above is complete. If it is pale, you have an open G. Count the lines leaving it, because those are the ones the system pays attention to.
TwoInks shows which centers are defined, and the guide to reading your chart explains how to count.
How the G center shapes a self is a Human Design idea. The method page explains what the calculation shows and what it only suggests.
